Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Yardi Scholarship
The Yardi Scholarship was established at The University of Akron in 2024 by Yardi Systems, a real estate software company that develops and supports industry-leading investment and property management software for all types and sizes of real estate companies. Founded in 1984 by Anant Yardi, the company has grown to over 9,000 employees in over 40 locations across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. At the core of Yardi’s success as a company are a series of beliefs and values that both shape the culture of work and guide the creation and constant improvement of Yardi’s products. Those beliefs and values include integrity, trust, communication, respect, innovation, collaboration, and community service. These values are represented in the Yardi motto “Take care of our clients, take care of our employees, take care of our communities, stay focused, and grow.”
Yardi is keenly aware of the importance of higher education and the transformative power that education can provide to individuals and seeks to expand these opportunities by supporting deserving students enrolled in the College of Business. The Yardi Scholarship will provide support of $10,000 annually to two students per year for a total of eight students over four years.
The Yardi Scholarship was established as part of We Rise Together, The Campaign for The University of Akron.
To be eligible for The Yardi Scholarship, students must be:
- Ohio residents and
- First-year, first-generation undergraduates.
Preference will then be given to students who also:
- Have financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid;
- Have a GPA of 2.8 or higher upon completing high school;
- Are enrolled in the College of Business; and
- Demonstrate high character and commitment to community, as evidenced by information provided on their admission applications.
If no students match all qualifiers, eligibility may be broadened to include students who are as closely aligned as possible with the four preferences. The University of Akron Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid shall make the determination and select recipients, who will be referred to as Yardi Scholars.
Funds will first be applied as a scholarship to student accounts and may be used for on-campus room and board, including meal plans. Funds used for purposes other than qualified educational expenses may be reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
The Yardi Scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the recipient maintains a GPA of 2.8 or higher and remains in good standing with the University. Students who change their majors from business remain eligible for the scholarship. Yardi is also willing to review exceptions that may occur under extraordinary circumstances.
