Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Noble Foundation Fund at Wayne College Campus

The Noble Foundation Fund at Wayne College Campus was established in July 2023. The Noble Foundation created the fund to assist students at risk of leaving Wayne College because of financial hardship. This critically important initiative will help ensure students can complete their academic journeys toward graduation and continue on to professional success, regardless of socioeconomic status.

The Noble Foundation Fund at Wayne College Campus supports all students at Wayne College who have funding gaps in tuition, fees, or other costs that would, if unaddressed, impact their college attendance. Students who are identified as having a financial need that would cause them to drop out of college or take on debt that would hamper their future outcomes are eligible to apply. Financial need may include tuition-related expenses or any unforeseen expenses that, if not resolved quickly, could lead to a student's departure from Wayne College and loss of momentum toward degree completion.

To use funding for items other than tuition and fees, applicants must be able to provide supportive documentation of financial need for emergency expense(s). Examples of acceptable documentation could include items such as car repair estimates or rental agreements. Eligible students must also have at least a 2.0 grade point average and reside in Wayne County.

Funds will be distributed at the discretion of the Wayne College Scholarship Committee. The fund is a safety net, providing funding when unexpected events threaten to disrupt or prevent a student's educational pursuit. Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books or living expenses, including off-campus housing, utilities, food, transportation, as well as other unforeseen expenses as approved by the Wayne College Scholarship Committee. Awards used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and may be taxable to the recipient.
