Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

ZipAssist Campus Cupboard Fund

The ZipAssist Campus Cupboard Fund, originally named Zips Pantry, was established in 2013 to help University of Akron students in need with access to the necessities of daily living. The fund was revised in 2021 to reflect the name change of the program and to better reflect the fund's purpose.

All enrolled students, whether undergraduate, graduate, international, on-campus resident, or commuter, have access to an assortment of food and hygiene items through the Campus Cupboard. Students may also pick up care packages prepared by Campus Cupboard and its community partners throughout the year and at various locations across campus.

Support for the ZipAssist Campus Cupboard Fund is provided by University of Akron alumni and friends who care about the wellbeing of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ students.

Funds in the ZipAssist Campus Cupboard Fund are allocated to the program in the ZipAssist Office and are to be used at the discretion of the Director of ZipAssist or the designee of the Vice President of Student Affairs to carry out the initiative's mission. The fund can be used for purposes and expenses related to operating the Campus Cupboard program, including yet not limited to the purchase of food and personal care items, gift cards, equipment for food preparation, storage, display, or distribution, and staffing the Campus Cupboard program.
