Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Bevilacqua, Frank P. and Marie Endowed Scholarship in Education

The Frank P. and Marie Bevilacqua Endowed Scholarship in Education was created in December 2006 with an outright gift from Frank P. and Marie Bevilacqua. In 2022, it was revised with their intention to endow the scholarship over 10 years.

Frank P. and Marie Bevilacqua are both proud graduates of The University of Akron. Frank received a B.A. in Mathematics in 1972 and an MBA in 1974. Marie received a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1971 and a master's degree in elementary education in 1974. Frank is Managing Partner at W3 Global Accounting, an accounting firm in Akron. Marie taught elementary school in Akron and later taught religious education at St. Hilary School. The Bevilacquas have three grown children and four granddaughters.

The Bevilacquas are strong believers in education and in giving back to their University and to their community.

The Frank P. and Marie Bevilacqua Endowed Scholarship in Education is a two-year scholarship that provides support during a student's junior and senior years. Students eligible for the scholarship must:

  • Be entering their junior year
  • Be enrolled full-time in The LeBron James Family Foundation School of Education
  • Have a plan to teach at the K-8 level
  • Have and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for both years
  • Be Ohio residents with demonstrated financial need

Every year, a minimum of two rising juniors will be selected for the scholarship by the University Scholarship Committee. The scholarship will automatically be renewed for each student's senior year, as long as they continue to meet the requirements. If a rising senior fails to meet requirements for renewal, the University Scholarship Committee may choose to provide the financial assistance to another senior who meets the eligibility criteria.

The scholarship's intent is to help with the cost of tuition and fees to two students for their junior and senior years.

To make a tax-deductible gift to this scholarship, please visit °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ’s . Select “A different designation” from the drop-down menu and enter “Bevilacqua Education Scholarship” in the text box. Thank you!
