When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Greatness STEMs from Me Scholarship
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s is creating The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Greatness STEMs from Me Scholarship award to benefit talented high school students as part of the company’s continuing commitment to promotion of education in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The scholarship was established in 2013 and revised in 2018.
Preference will be given to high school students who have been directly admitted to attend The University of Akron College of Engineering in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in engineering. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be a high school senior enrolled in a public or private school or home schooled.
The applicant must complete a formal application by March 16, 2018 by submitting all required materials to gySTEM_careerday@goodyear.com or submitting the application online via the following link: . Application forms are available to download on the website.
- A “Greatness STEMs from Me” essay (1,000 words or less)
- What inspired you to pursue a STEM major?
- What are your career goals?
- What are you currently working on that involves STEM or is STEM related?
- Optional: For $2,500 scholarship, the student is invited to be creative and use any medium of their choice such as video (applicant must be the narrator), or other; and submit materials to the email address
Note: 20 MB limit is maximum file size accepted by the email address. YouTube is suggested with an inclusion of a link in the application
- One letter of recommendation from a STEM teacher
- High school transcript
- SAT or ACT scores (a photocopy of the official score report)
- Evidence of acceptance in a baccalaureate program at The University of Akron
This requirement must be met prior to the check being issued to the University of Akron, or by August 14 at the latest
- Applicant must attend the Goodyear STEM Career Day at The University of Akron

Schools may e-mail transcripts or letters of recommendation separately if necessary as long as the subject line is the same as specified above.
