Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Rotch, Charity Nursing and Health Professions Scholarship
The Charity Rotch Nursing and Health Professions Scholarship was established in July 2013 at The University of Akron by the Charity Rotch School of Kendal Foundation and named for school founder Charity Rotch. Through her estate, Mrs. Rotch established a school for the education and development of disadvantaged and destitute children. The school, named the Charity School of Kendal, operated in the area that now is known as Massillon, Ohio, (formerly known as Kendal) from 1826 to 1925, at which time the school was closed and proceeds from its sale became available to carry out the wishes of Mrs. Rotch to provide educational opportunities to deserving students through scholarships.
The fund is now administered by a five-person Board of Trustees and, over the years, has aided hundreds of young people in their educational pursuits.
The Charity Rotch Nursing and Health Professions Scholarship will be awarded to students from western Stark County enrolled in their junior or senior year in The University of Akron College of Health Professions who evidence academic success and financial need. Recipients are eligible for up to $1,000 for the 2013-2014 academic year. This scholarship is to be for tuition and fees, and should be applied to the student’s account as a last dollars scholarship. The Office of Student Success in the College of Health Professions will be responsible for selecting recipients and distributing the awards.
