Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Rupert, Dr. Pamela R. and Donald C. Endowed Scholarship in Music

The Dr. Pamela R. and Donald C. Rupert Endowed Scholarship in Music is intended to help support and encourage outstanding music majors in The University of Akron School of Music.

The scholarship is for junior and senior undergraduate students or graduate students studying violin, woodwinds, or piano. The scholarship may be awarded to one or more students a year for one or more years. The selection of recipients is at the discretion of the director of the °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ School of Music in consultation with the °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ Student Financial Aid Office and Dr. Pamela Rupert.

Ardent concertgoers, the Ruperts shared a love of symphonic and jazz music. In 2013, Pamela generously funded the purchase of a Steinway-manufactured Boston upright piano for the °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ School of Music in memory of her husband. Donald's late sister was a violinist.

Both were also educators and dedicated to helping students succeed. Pamela retired from The University of Akron in 1996 as director emeritus of developmental programs and adjunct professor in the College of Education after 30 years of service. Donald, who died in 2012, was a graphic arts teacher at Hudson High School.

The Dr. Pamela R. and Donald C. Rupert Endowed Scholarship in Music was created in December 2014 by a generous gift from Pamela Rupert. Additional contributions are welcome.

Through an additional non-endowment gift from Dr. Rupert, the first scholarship(s) will be awarded for the 2015-16 academic year. Dr. Rupert may also make additional gifts to increase the award amount available, thus providing a more significant financial benefit to one or more students.
