O'Neill Group Scholarship in Risk Management and Insurance, The

The O'Neill Group Scholarship in Risk Management and Insurance was established as a non-endowed fund in June 2018, to offer financial support to The University of Akron's College of Business Administration (CBA) students preparing for careers in risk management and insurance.

The non-endowed scholarship was made possible by the support of The O'Neill Group, which nominated °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ's new Risk Management and Insurance Degree Program for, and was awarded, a grant from the Westfield Insurance Foundation's Legacy of Caring program.

The O'Neill Group is an independent agency that has proudly served the greater Northeast Ohio region with insurance and risk management services for over 90 years. From home, auto, life, and health insurance to business insurance -The O'Neill Group seeks to offer the protection that families and businesses deserve. The O'Neill Group values the communities in which they live and work and seeks to "Make a Difference." They give back by contributing their time and talents to serve local non-profit organizations. In addition, they sponsor and make cash donations to events and programs within their community.

The O'Neill Group considers it important to reward scholars for academic excellence in finance, risk management, and insurance. Through students' hard work, they will strengthen their knowledge in these areas while preparing for careers helping others protect their businesses and families' future.

Students eligible for The O'Neill Group Scholarship in Risk Management and Insurance must: 

  • be declared a Risk Management and Insurance major or minor
  • have completed forty-five (45) credit hours
  • have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Recipient selection and scholarship amounts will be determined annually, as funds are available, by the College of Business Administration's Department of Finance Scholarship Committee and CBA's Scholarship Committee. The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of The University of Akron's chair of the Department of Finance or their designee(s).

Applicants should include a resume, unofficial transcript, scholarship application form from the Department of Finance, and a one-to-three page essay on why you have chosen to pursue Risk Management and Insurance as a career path and what your plans are to become successful in the field.
