Ploenes, Albert L. Endowed Fund

Albert L. Ploenes established The Albert L. Ploenes Endowed Fund through a charitable gift annuity held by The University of Akron Foundation.

Mr. Ploenes was a loyal Akron native, spending his life and career educating young people in the area. He graduated from John R. Buchtel High School and attended The University of Akron, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education (1958) and a Master of Arts in Education (1974). As a student, he was a member of the lnterfraternity Council and recognized as an Omicron Delta Kappa Honoree. Mr. Ploenes served as president of the Lone Star Fraternity and later as president of the Lone Star Alumni Board. He remained a devoted alumnus, friend and supporter of The University of Akron throughout the years.

Mr. Ploenes began his teaching career at Roswell Kent Junior High School and John R. Buchtel Senior High School. After teaching for a decade, he took an administrative position with Akron Public Schools, where he served as Director of Pupil Data and Assignment. In 2014, The University of Akron proudly honored Mr. Ploenes with the College of Education Distinguished Alumni Award.

The Albert L. Ploenes Endowed Fund was established for the unrestricted benefit of The University of Akron Foundation. Funds may be used at the discretion of the executive director of The University of Akron Foundation.
