Meyer, Robert C. Endowed Scholarship
University of Akron alumnus Robert C. Meyer pledged his support for this endowed scholarship in 2013. A native of Copley, Ohio, Mr. Meyer attended The University of Akron and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1979. He relocated to Florida, where he began his career in a local accounting firm. The career satisfaction derived from this environment prompted Mr. Meyer to establish a scholarship for students pursuing accounting degrees at The University of Akron who also plan to put their accounting degrees to work in a small to mid-size local accounting firm, where professionalism and client satisfaction are priorities over profit. As a partner in the firm of Edwards Platt Meyer, P.A., Mr. Meyer sees the value such firms have in the everyday lives of his clients.
The Robert C. Meyer Endowed Scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration who is majoring in accounting and has a demonstrated interest in working as a professional accountant for a local or regional accounting firm. An internship or other work history with a local or regional firm may be used to show a demonstrated interest. A minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall, business, and accounting) is required. The award is renewable, provided the student maintains the required minimum GPA. The award may be used to support a graduate assistantship for students in the Accelerated BS/MS Accounting program. Selection shall be made by the Chair of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration, or the appropriate designee.
