Newland, Dr. Daniel M. Student Affairs Scholarship Fund
The Dr. Daniel M. Newland Student Affairs Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 in memory of Dr. Daniel M. Newland. Dr. Newland was a member of the University family for 30 years and earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University in 1987. His career at The University of Akron was one of service to students. At the time of his death, Dr. Newland was the assistant vice president and dean of students and an instructor in the Department of Sociology. Dr. Newland’s previous posts included advisor of students, student development coordinator, and assistant dean of University College.
Selection of the scholarship recipient(s) will be made by the Dr. Daniel M. Newland Student Affairs Scholarship Fund Selection Committee based on the following qualities and criteria: applicants must have completed at least one academic year of study and accumulated at least 30 semester hours of credit at The University of Akron; a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 at The University of Akron is required; a significant contribution(s) in service to students at the University must be documented. Applications should include a written statement from the applicant (100-200 words) indicating the service contribution that s/he has made on behalf of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ students. Documentation could include, but is not limited to, letters/certificates of recognition and reference letters from faculty, administrators, and/or advisors, etc. The scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship. The Office of Student Financial Aid will award the scholarships.
