Rowley, John G. and Helen M. Endowed Scholarship
The Rowley family has a proud and charitable history with the city of Akron and The University of Akron. The University is proud to recognize the Rowley family name with an endowed scholarship honoring in perpetuity the late John G. and Helen M. Rowley.
John G. Rowley was born in 1902 and was a 1924 graduate of The University of Akron’s College of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Rowley played on the men’s varsity basketball team and was a valued member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also earned an LLB degree from Western Reserve University. Mr. Rowley was an honorable and successful Akron attorney for more than 65 years, primarily as a partner in his law firm, Rowley and Taylor.
Mr. Rowley was married to the former Helen Miller, a 1926 alumna of the College of Education at The University of Akron. She was a full-time elementary teacher in the Akron Public Schools.
The John G. and Helen M. Rowley Endowed Scholarship will be housed in the Honors College of The University of Akron. Worthy students must firmly demonstrate financial need to qualify for support. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the dean of the Honors College or his/her designee in coordination with the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
