Farris, Leona W. Scholarship
The Leona W. Farris Scholarship was established by the faculty of the School of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1987 in recognition of Leona W. Farris, Director of Community Involvement, who taught in the School for 20 years. The description was revised in 2012 and again in 2024. The revision in 2024 will replace both the original description and 2012 revision, respectively.
The earnings from this endowed fund are to be used for university undergraduate or graduate students majoring in child and family development. Candidates must have a high-grade point average, a commitment to community service and financial need. Special consideration should be given to students who have demonstrated experience in, or commitment to, working with historically underserved or underprivileged populations. Recipients shall be selected by The University of Akron Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid.
