Marquette, Penny Scholarship Fund
The Penny Marquette Scholarship Fund was established at The University of Akron in 2014 through a generous gift from Dr. Penny Marquette, a University of Akron alumna, who taught in the Daverio School of Accountancy for more than 24 years, retiring in 2014. Her affinity for the institution and belief in the importance of higher education led her to establish the scholarship.
The fund will provide $1,000 annually for text books and/or other educational materials for student(s) who have completed The Running Start Summer Bridge program.
Annually, the Summer Bridge initiative allows approximately 30 incoming freshmen to live on campus and take an intensive eight-week program focused on mathematics. Students who successfully complete the Summer Bridge Program are eligible to receive the Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Choose Ohio First Scholarship. The Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program Office will recommend scholarship candidates to Dr. Marquette, who will review and make scholarship selections. Preference will be given to students with financial need and academic credentials. At such time Dr. Marquette is no longer involved in the scholarship decisions, the Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program Office will assume the responsibility.
