Ammons, Benjamin G. Endowment for Women's Basketball

In recognition of The University of Akron's 150th anniversary, The Benjamin G. Ammons Endowment for Women's Basketball was established by Benjamin "Ben" Ammons in 2021. A first-generation college student, Ben earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from The University of Akron in 1958. While a student, Ben was President of the 1958 Graduating Class and active in the Air Force ROTC serving as Commanding Officer his senior year. Additionally, Ben was member of the A-Key and Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) honorary societies, as well as Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, holding several offices including Vice President of lnter-fraternity Council, and he participated in University Theater.

Ben's career led him to the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company (now Bridgestone Corporation), joining the company in 1982. Over the course of his tenure Ben was a Corporate Officer and held several executive positions, including President of the Diversified Products Companies and Executive Vice President of The Firestone Tire Company. He retired as Corporate Senior Vice President of Total Quality Management. The University of Akron has benefitted by Ben's servant leadership for more than four decades. He has held leadership positions on The University of Akron Board of Trustees, University of Akron Foundation Board, and College of Engineering Dean's Advancement Council.

An avid fan of Zips athletics, Ben has been a longtime supporter of women's basketball and athletic initiatives. In the early 1980's, he provided funding to renovate the first women's basketball locker room in the James A. Rhodes Arena. The Benjamin G. Ammons Endowment for Women's Basketball will serve- to meet the greatest needs of the women's basketball program at The University of Akron.

Use of available funds will be determined by the Director of Athletics in collaboration with the Head Women's Basketball Coach to enhance the °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ women's basketball program.
