Freeman, Charles and Jeanne Honors Scholarship

Charles Freeman and his wife Jeanne established The Charles and Jeanne Freeman Honors Scholarship in 2009 to assist students in The University of Akron's Honors College. An active alumnus and benefactor of the College of Business Administration, Mr. Freeman is a member of the College's Advancement Council and has been an active member of the Finance Department Advisory Board. He was instrumental in establishing and fundraising for the Finance Department's restricted endowment. As a vice president in the Global Private Client Group of Merrill Lynch, Mr. Freeman is a tremendous advocate for his alma mater. Mrs. Freeman is a graduate of Duke University with a double major in Nursing and Spanish Literature. While raising a family, she returned to The University of Akron to earn a teaching certificate, and she currently teaches Spanish on a part-time basis at the Medina County Career Center.

Establishing a scholarship to assist students in their academic pursuits in The University of Akron's Honors College is another example of the Freeman's belief in the importance of higher education. Applicants to The Charles and Jeanne Freeman Honors Scholarship must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors in the Honors College. Selection will be made by the dean of the Honors College or the appropriate designee.
