Larson-Dobbins, Mrs. Jeanine Endowed Scholarship
The Mrs. Jeanine Larson-Dobbins Endowed Scholarship was established in November 2018, by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Dobbins. This gift honors Jeanine’s legacy and her ability to make lasting positive impacts, particularly in the field of education.
Jeanine, who comes from a family of University of Akron alumni, is a 1971 alumna with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. As a °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ student, Jeanine was a member of The Eta Chapter of Delta Gamma at The University of Akron, president of Associated Women Students, and was the first-ever undergraduate student trustee. She eventually married another alumnus, Dr. Kenneth Dobbins. She followed him to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where Dr. Dobbins became one of the longest-serving presidents of Southeast Missouri State University. Ken and Jeanine were married for almost 47 years, displaying an example of love and leadership for their son, daughter-in-law, grandsons and the community.
Jeanine was the founder of the Missouri Statewide Early Literacy Intervention Program, which educated more than 700 teachers and assisted more than 300,000 elementary students with reading difficulties. It is evident by Ken and Jeanine’s career path that both shared a strong appreciation, passion and concern for higher education.
Jeanine will be remembered fondly by family and friends. With so many lives touched by her leadership, this scholarship is created in her memory.
