Obiekwe Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Obiekwe Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2012 by Jerry Obiekwe, Professor of Mathematics at The University of Akron Wayne College, in loving memory of his late parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. and C. E. Obiekwe. Dr. Obiekwe’s parents were strong proponents of a high-quality college or university education, so the scholarship was set up in their honor to keep their legacy of excelling in education as a spring board to success. Mr. and Mrs. Obiekwe believed that a college- or university-level education is a very important and positive investment that never stops yielding dividends to the individual and to society.

The Obiekwe Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to support full-time students with a minimum of 30 credit hours enrolled at The University of Akron Wayne College or The University of Akron main campus. However, the scholarship should only be awarded to students at the main campus if there are no qualifying students at Wayne College. Recipients selected must have at least a 3.5 GPA, with an earned “A” in College Algebra, English 111, and 112. This scholarship is based on scholastic achievement and on financial need and will be applied only to tuition fees.
