Rainey, Drs. Clarissa D. and Clarence W. Endowed Scholarship

The Drs. Clarissa D. and Clarence W. Rainey Endowed Scholarship was established in 1987 (and revised in 2016) by Mary C. Rainey, Ph.D., in honor of her parents, both of whom were medical doctors. Mary Rainey created the fund to reflect the couple’s strong belief in the value of higher education and family life.

The Drs. Clarissa D. and Clarence W. Rainey Endowed Scholarship provides scholarship assistance to a student who is a single parent with demonstrated financial need. Candidates must be enrolled full time, pursuing any major at The University of Akron. There is no minimum GPA requirement. Preference will be given to students on the verge of dropping out for financial reasons. The University of Akron Scholarship committee, in conjunction with the Office of Student Financial Aid, will determine recipients, as well as award amounts and award dates.
