Berthelot Business Scholarship for Excellence
The Berthelot Business Scholarship for Excellence was created in 1997 by Michael J. Berthelot, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the TransTechnology Corporation in Liberty Corner, New Jersey. Mr. Berthelot graduated from The University of Akron in 1975 with a B.S. in Accounting, following a four year tour of duty with the United States Coast Guard after graduating in 1968 from Stow High School. While at Akron, he was a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and the Veterans Club. Mr. Berthelot established this scholarship to thank The University of Akron for the fine education he received, and to thank the communities in which he spent such a fondly remembered part of his life.
The scholarship is to be awarded to an incoming freshman in the College of Business Administration. The recipient will be awarded $4,500 annually to cover expenses for tuition, books, and fees. Preference will be given to students from Stow and Hudson High Schools and the Western Reserve Academy. Applicants should be students who maintain good academic records, participate in extracurricular activities, and have some full or part time work experience. To remain eligible for the scholarship, the student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average at the College of Business Administration within The University of Akron. Selection of the recipient is determined by the College of Business Administration Scholarship Committee and Mr. Berthelot.
