Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Office of Multicultural Development Learning Communities Housing Scholarship
The Office of Multicultural Development Learning Communities Housing Scholarship was established with a grant by the KeyBank Foundation in September 2023 in honor of the We Rise Together Campaign for The University of Akron and in accordance with their mission to support organizations and programs that prepare individuals for thriving futures with a focus on advancing socio-economic, racial, and environmental equity.
Financial assistance through Office of Multicultural Development housing scholarships reduces financial barriers and enhances academic performance; allowing students to focus on their studies and thrive. Often students of underrepresented communities lack mentors and resources to help them navigate and adjust to a university environment. This often increases the likelihood they will not continue pursuing their education. Living on campus nurtures the student through their learning experience and provides them the opportunity to readily connect with peers and mentors. This affiliation helps ease their transitions to academic life. Further, on campus students also benefit from ready access to a plethora of support services such as counseling and tutoring to ensure they continue their paths to graduation without interruption.
Qualified recipients of The Office of Multicultural Development Learning Communities Housing Scholarship must live on campus, be in good academic standing, and be Pell eligible. Recipients also must be a participant of one of the Office of Multicultural Development's learning communities which currently include but are not limited to the Diverse Male Learning Community and/or the PASSAGE Learning Community. Recipients will be selected by The University of Akron Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid. Awards used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses may be reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
