Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Davis, James A. Jr. and Donna Dale Endowed Scholarship
The James A., Jr. and Donna Dale Davis Endowed Scholarship was established in 2019 by Jim and Donna for students attending The University of Akron Wayne College. James “Jim” and Donna Dale have been Wayne College supporters for many years, and were a part of the historic group of more than 400 founding benefactors whose gifts helped establish the college in 1972. Since then, they have helped Wayne College through event sponsorships, as well as donations for building improvements and other capital projects. Jim and Donna are among Wayne College’s biggest advocates and they promote its mission and positive impact throughout the community. They also extend their generosity across the local community as volunteers with and financial supporters of several non-profits and other organizations. The Davises believe in giving back and they do it as a team – an example to be emulated.
Jim and Donna Dale hold education in high regard and desire to help future students overcome financial barriers that would hold them back from pursuing their higher education goals.
Eligible students for The James A., Jr. and Donna Dale Davis Endowed Scholarship must be full-time Wayne College students and have demonstrated financial need. They must also be graduates of Orrville or Dalton high schools. Recipient selection will be determined by the designated Wayne College representative or committee.
