Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Childcare Allies: Supporting Student Parents Fund

Women in Philanthropy is a dynamic community of donors united by a shared commitment to transforming lives. Our members come together to pool resources and create meaningful impact on our campus. Each year, funds raised are dedicated to addressing critical student needs.

In 2024, our members chose to invest in student parents. Balancing parenthood and higher education presents immense challenges, often leading to increased dropout rates due to inaccessible childcare. By providing financial relief, we aim to empower these students to pursue their academic goals without sacrificing their families' well-being.

Through The Childcare Allies: Supporting Student Parents Fund, we've partnered with local agencies to offer substantial childcare subsidies. Our goal is to increase student retention, graduation rates, and overall quality of life. By investing in our students' families, we are building a stronger, more inclusive university community.

The Childcare Allies: Supporting Student Parents Fund is part of We Rise Together, the Campaign for The University of Akron.
