Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Carter, Trina Endowment for Educational Excellence

The University of Akron is deeply honored to announce the establishment of The Trina Carter Endowment for Educational Excellence. This fund, established through a generous estate gift, reflects Ms. Carter's lifelong commitment to education and deep affection for our institution.

Ms. Carter worked for over 20 years as an attorney and office manager for the law firm of Emershaw, Mushkat & Schneier, focusing her practice on probate, elder law, and workers' compensation. After a fulfilling career in private practice, Ms. Carter developed an interest in home renovation, construction, and development while working on renovations to her own home. Pursuing this interest, she joined Crasi Homes, Inc. as a project manager. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Carter Lumber.

Ms. Carter is also passionate about supporting education. She previously served as an elected member of the Tallmadge Board of Education and currently serves on the Board of Trustees at The University of Akron, since her appointment in 2021.

The Trina Carter Endowment for Educational Excellence will provide vital resources to elevate teaching and learning across the University and enhance the educational experience of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ students. Potential areas of support include:

  • Wellness Support: Promoting and facilitating programs, such as nutrition, exercise, and mental health programs, that enhance and/or promote the physical and mental wellbeing of students and faculty so that they are better able to teach, learn, and innovate.

By empowering our dedicated faculty and enriching the academic experience for our students, this endowment will make a lasting impact on generations to come. It reflects Ms. Carter's unwavering belief in the power of education to shape a brighter future.
