When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Simonetti, Dr. Frank L. Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Endowed Scholarship was established in 2001 by the College of Business (formerly the College of Business Administration) Alumni Board to recognize and honor the significant impact Dr. Frank L. Simonetti has had on the lives of thousands of College of Business graduates. The scholarship was revised in 2023 to provide additional scholarship support to College of Business students.
A graduate of The University of Akron Class of 1940 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Dr. Simonetti was a member of Beta Delta Psi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Sigma Alpha. He later went on to receive his master's degree from Boston University and doctorate from Indiana University. Dr. Simonetti enjoyed a long and illustrious career with The University of Akron as a Professor of Management until his retirement. In 1987, the College of Business created The Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award in his honor. This award recognizes outstanding business leaders who are graduates of The University of Akron.
The Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to incoming students who have been admitted to the College of Business and display significant potential as future business leaders through academic success, civic involvement, and community efforts. The scholarship is renewable to business majors who maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA).
Recipients shall be selected by the University of Akron Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid.
