A perfect climate for a political science degree

Grace DeWitt is a political science and global studies major at °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ, where she found the perfect balance of academic challenge and community support. "I chose Akron because there are so many opportunities available for students," she explains, highlighting how the university's flexible programs allow her to add a minor or certificate to set herself apart when applying to law schools, grad programs, or jobs after graduation.

She appreciates the structure and interactivity of her political science classes, which have helped her develop essential skills like critical thinking and logical reasoning.  “The professors, the faculty, and the staff in the political science department have been extremely helpful during my time at °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ,” Grace shares. “I’ve never felt like I couldn’t reach out.” This support has helped her thrive in her studies and beyond, securing an internship at a local law firm and serving as the undergraduate student body president in the Undergraduate Student Government.

Grace is enthusiastic about the many ways political science majors can get involved on campus, highlighting student organizations like the Undergraduate Student Government, College Democrats, College Republicans, and the Pre-Law Society.

“The University of Akron, and the political science department in particular, is a place of opportunity,” she says. “With dedication, students can excel and make the most of their time at °µºÚ±¬ÁÏ.”
