On April 25, more than 50 senior students majoring in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering presented their projects at the Resource and Success Center located in the Auburn Science and Engineering Center. These capstone projects were built on five years of fundamentals learned in class and experiential learning opportunities such as undergraduate research, co-op, and design teams. Advisory Council members, faculty, staff, students and families in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) participated in the event to support these graduating seniors.

Congratulations to the following students who received this year's awards:

  • First Place: Whiteboard
Andrew K. Adams, Stefan Ilic, James A. Medved, Vaughn A. Richards
    Advisor: Dr. Andrew Milks
The team created a whiteboard attachment that can automatically draw a variety of comonly used assets, such as rectangles, triangles, circles, sinusoids and words.
  • Second Place: Weather Monitor
Joel S. Christie-Millett, Matthew Szijarto, Nathan E. Schroeder, Sylvester Wilson
    Advisor: Dr. Nghi Tran
The team created a weather monitor system to notify wildfire awareness through reliable wireless communication.
  • Third Place: Game
Tanner C. Martin, Alexander V. Piccirillo, Matthew R. Schmidt, Clint M. Spillman
    Advisor: Dr. Shivakumar Sastry
The team built a device that can be used for teamwork building in high stress environments.

Each student from these teams received a monetary award made available through funds donated by Dr. C.F. Chen, a successful computer industry entrepreneur and former faculty member at ECE.

The ECE Department would like to thank Max Fightmaster and Erik Rinaldo for their assistance with materials and set-up. In addition, congratulations and a farewell were extended to Emeritus Associate Professor of Practice, Gregory Lewis for organizing and supervising the event. Lewis has been a Zip for 40 years.
