Nathan Ida
University of Akron faculty members Dr. Nathan Ida, distinguished professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Drs. Michelle Hoo Fatt and Dane Quinn, both professors of mechanical engineering, were recently selected as Fellows, joining the 22 percent of the College of Engineering faculty members elected Fellows of one or more professional societies.
Ida was elected as a Fellow of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES) on Jan. 1. ACES Fellows represent a small percentage of the society's overall membership and are elected based on technical accomplishments, peer evaluation and significant contributions to the computational electromagnetics community.
Michelle Hoo Fatt
His research Interests include computational electromagnetics, nondestructive evaluation of materials, wave propagation in materials, scattering, antennas, electromagnetic compatibility, computer algorithms and computer methods, as well as sensors and sensing systems.
Hoo Fatt and Quinn were elected as Fellows of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in recognition of their outstanding scholarly accomplishments.
Dane Quinn
Hoo Fatt is recognized for her seminal contributions to research and education in the areas of last and impact mechanics of composite structures; and mechanics of elastomers and elastomeric foams. Hoo Fatt serves on editorial boards of journals, organizes international conferences, and is an officer of professional societies.
Quinn is an expert in nonlinear dynamics and vibrations and is widely recognized for his use of fundamental principles and creativity in the analysis of engineering systems. Quinn is also an acknowledged for his editorial work for four archival journals, active membership on several technical committees, and key organizational roles for several ASME Design Division conferences.
