Ohio Governor’s Expedited Pardon Project
The University of Akron School of Law operates the in partnership with The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Trained and supervised students at Akron Law’s Reentry Clinic and Ohio State Law’s Drug Enforcement and Policy Center screen potential pardon candidates to ensure that they meet the project’s requirements. The students also assist the project’s clients with preparing a pardon petition to the governor. The project is designed to simplify Ohio’s lengthy clemency process for certain rehabilitated citizens who have consistently demonstrated that they’ve become contributing members of society. It is estimated that 1 in 6 Ohioans, over 1.9 million, has a criminal conviction.
