Conflict Transformation refers to the process of moving from conflict-habituated systems to peace systems. This process is distinguished from the more common term of conflict resolution because of its focus on systems change. As a component of conflict transformation, at the Center, we focus on restorative justice practices which starts with the question, What was the harm done to the community? How can a person who created harm give back? Transformative Justice also asks why the harm was committed, what are the root causes, and what the survivor or community needs for justice. Conflict Transformation actively cultivates the things we know that prevent conflict, including violence, such as healing, accountability, resilience, and safety for all involved. While we draw on mediation as part of our toolbox to resolve an issue, we prioritize existing power dynamics or social context in addressing the conflict.
Social Entrepreneurship is the organization of a business around specific social justice causes, and can include both nonprofit organizations and charities and for-profit social social enterprises. Social entrepreneurs may seek to produce environmentally-friendly products, serve an underserved community, or focus on philanthropic activities.
